MCT oil as a high-quality energy boost – WITARIX® MCT C8
18. March 2021
FINALLY! After what felt like an endless winter with (exceptionally) a lot of snow, the first sun rays tickle our skin. We are drawn outside, our body craves exercise, and the winter fat needs to be worked off. So, put on your running shoes and get some fresh air.
However, a lot of people forget that a balanced diet and exercise go hand in hand. The aim is more energy, less hunger and quick weight loss – at least that is what the keto diet promises. In this low-carb diet a maximum of 5% carbohydrates per day, but high-fat foods are “allowed”. Pasta, bread, rice or sugar are off limits, while oily fish, broccoli, cucumber, or zucchini are included. As a result, the body is “reprogrammed” so that the liver increasingly metabolises fats into ketone bodies, which serve as an energy source for the brain, muscles and other organs. Thus, the unloved fat cells are targeted, which achieves the desired weight loss effect.
Unfortunately, low carb also often means low energy. This is where medium-chain fatty acids (MCTs) can help. In general, oils consist of fatty acid molecules of different lengths that the body can process in different ways. MCT oils are in a spectrum that can be metabolised particularly well. Our WITARIX® MCT C8 (caprylic acid), for example, provides a true energy boost. MCT C8 can be metabolised quicker than others and provides a noticeable boost of energy. Various studies show that nerve cells are good at processing energy from fats, which promotes mental performance.
This can definitely help us when working from home, too! Ever heard of “Bulletproof Coffee“? The American Dave Asprey made this mixture famous. The recipe is quite simple and it can be made quickly:
- 250 ml
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons MCT oil (for example, WITARIX® MCT C8).
Mix all ingredients in a blender for 20 seconds until a homogeneous, creamy liquid is formed. Done. The MCT oil provides a quick energy kick, and the butter keeps you from feeling hungry for a long time. The drink tastes like a delicious café latte, so it’s perfect for starting the day. If no blender is available, a spoon does the trick and vegans simply leave out the butter. MCT works just as well in vegetable smoothies, protein shakes or salad dressings, for example, and thus enriches a wide variety of products.
