Environmentally friendly formulations for veterinary medicine
6. August 2025
Protecting farm animals and pets from parasites is a key part of modern veterinary medicine. Pour-on formulations, where a medication is applied directly to the skin or fur, are especially popular because they’re easy to use and stress-free.
However, any external application also carries the risk of accidentally contaminating the environment through rain, grooming, or direct contact. It is therefore crucial to carefully select the ingredients of formulations with regard to ecological compatibility and biodegradability without neglecting functional or qualitative aspects.
Big and small: challenges posed by different application scenarios
Whether farm animals or pets, large or small, pour-on or spot-on treatments always pose a potential risk of contamination of soil or water. When walking through the woods with man’s best friend or enjoying a cooling dip on a hot day, animals and their owners should not have to worry about whether the carrier oil in tick repellents is environmentally friendly.
In extensive grazing systems, such as in New Zealand or Argentina, drones and helicopters are even increasingly being used for pour-on application. Although this enables comprehensive treatment of livestock, it carries the risk of increased entry into the environment. Against this background, the environmental compatibility of carrier oils in particular is becoming increasingly important.

Our MIGLYOL® and IMWITOR® portfolios correspond to high-quality, even edible oils and are therefore completely safe for both pets and livestock. Should they accidentally enter the environment, they are easily biodegradable.
The proven effectiveness of our products and their sustainable nature give both manufacturers and users the certainty that they have made a responsible choice – for animal health and environmental protection alike.
